Boston Celtics

DENVER–Randy Foye recorded a season-high 23 Pts (8-17 FG, 7-12 3PT) for the Denver Nuggets (17-17) as they they beat the Boston Celtics (13-22) 129-98 at the Pepsi Center on Jan. 8.  The Nuggets have won three-straight games since losing eight-consecutive games from Dec. 17 to Jan. 1.  Kenneth Faried (21 Pts, 13 Reb) and Ty Lawson (19 Pts, 13 Ast ) also added double-doubles for the Nuggets.  Jeff Green led the Celtics with 17 Pts and 4 Reb.

Early in the game, the Nuggets took a commanding lead by hitting threes, dunks and free throws. In the first quarter, the Nuggets outscored the Celtics 31-23.  The second quarter was much of the same as the Nuggets scored 37 points to the Celtics 22.

And then the third quarter happened.

The third quarter got a little more interesting when starting Celtics center Jared Sullinger got two quick flagrant fouls to get tossed out of the game with 8:43 left in the quarter.  Sullinger first  fouled JJ Hickson hard from behind on defense, and then threw an elbow to Faried’s face on offense to get the boot.

Wilson Chandler, who has played in 28 games this season for the Nuggets, left in the third with a groin injury.  On Jan. 8, Chandler will undergo a precautionary MRI on his groin since the strain was on the same side as a previous hip surgery.

First-year Nuggets coach Brian Shaw got his first ejection as a head coach on Tuesday.  Shaw argued an offensive foul call on Evan Fournier, picked up two technicals, and left the game towards the end of the third.  The Nuggets need not worry at that point–they led the Celtics by 28 during the time of ejection.

In the fourth quarter, the Nuggets snapped six-straight quarters of scoring 30+ points as they finished the game with 26 points.  In the last two and a half minutes, the Nuggets emptied their bench playing Quincy Miller, Anthony Randolph and Jordan Hamilton.  Miller came off the bench and hit a three and finished a dunk to end the game on a high note.

Other Notes:

-Andre Miller missed his third-straight game since getting into a shouting match with Shaw against the Sixers.  Miller’s expected to leave the team by the end of the week.  Since getting suspended, the Nuggets have gone 3-0 without Miller.

- Six Nuggets players scored at least 10 Pts against the Celtics.

-In their past three games, the Nuggets have averaged 125.6 points.

-Shaw’s squad has gone 3-0 since limiting the rotation to nine players.

-This win was the largest margin of victory the Nuggets have EVER had over the Celtics.

For their next game, the Nuggets host the Oklahoma City Thunder.  Tip-off is at 8:30 PM MT.  The game will be nationally televised on TNT.
